During the winter program, we can help with a regular heating/electric bill or with an emergency situation related to your heating/electric bill. During the summer program, we can help with a regular electric bill or with an emergency related to your electric bill. Emergency situations include a shut off notice, reconnection, setting up a new account, and having less than 10% in your propane tank.

Regular assistance takes up to 35 days to process and be applied to your utility account. Crisis applications (once all documentation is provided and an interview has taken place) are processed within 48 hours.

We can accept bills that are not under your name as long as they are under the name of someone who lives in your household.
If the bill is in someone else’s name and that person does not live with you, we need verification that the person on the bills lives at a different address. Please call our office with any questions.

We need proof of how you have been paying your bills and meeting basic necessities.  If someone has helped you out by giving you money or paying for something, we need that person to fill out a Contribution Statement (check out our alternative documents section). Otherwise, we will need two people unrelated to you and not living in the household to fill out Collateral Statements (see alternative documents). Please have these people read the statements carefully and follow the directions exactly. The applicant MAY NOT fill out either the Contribution or Collateral Statements.

We run two assistance programs per year. The program most people use is our Winter Heating Assistance Program. It usually runs from January through April. Our other program is our Summer Cooling Assistance Program. It usually runs from July through September. Each program offers regular assistance and crisis assistance to qualified applicants.
You are eligible to receive assistance at least once per program. If you have received assistance once already during the current program, call our office to see if you are eligible to receive assistance again.

Our funding allows us to pay for the electric portion of bills that include other utilities. For example, if your shut off notice is for a bill that includes water, electric, sewer, and trash, we can only pay for the electric portion of the shut off. It will be your responsibility to pay the remainder.
