First Time Trying Senior Fitness Classes? Here's What To Expect
Whether you're a senior searching for things for seniors to do, or you're an adult child of a senior searching for activities at a senior community center, senior fitness classes are a great way for older citizens to make new friends and stay in shape. If you or your parents aren't sure what to expect for their first time at senior fitness classes, know that it's normal to be a little unsure when trying out a new situation.
You'll want to be sure you're prepared for whatever class you choose, and that may require doing a bit of research for what clothing is appropriate. If you're doing a water fitness class, find out whether you need to bring a bathing cap, and be sure to bring a towel and flip flops to walk around the locker room. If you're doing a standard fitness class, find out what kind of workout wear you'll need to fully participate. If it's been awhile since you've replaced your sneakers, it's a good idea to get new ones before you start attending senior fitness classes.
When you arrive at the senior community center for senior fitness classes, you'll first sign in at the front desk. You'll want to check the website of the senior community center beforehand to see whether you need to call ahead or sign up online for classes. You'll go into the workout room and wait for the class to begin. When the instructor enters the room, he or she will talk with you about what to expect from the class. Don't be afraid to speak up if you have an injury or other issue that may require you to modify some of the exercises in the class. The instructor will be able to give you special attention to ensure that you're able to participate as fully as possible.
If you're on the search for things for seniors to do, exercise classes are a great way to socialize and stay healthy. As with any exercise program, be sure to check with your doctor to make sure that your body is healthy enough to handle an exercise class.
